Title: Working with high parental conflict: An interview with Dr Joan B Kelly (Video or DVD).

Overview: In this extensive interview, Dr Joan Kelly, a pioneer clinician and researcher in the area of children's responses to separation and divorce, addresses questions of how to intervene with parents in high conflict. Dr Kelly speaks of the need to incorporate into clinical and mediation work, the unequivocal research findings on the negative impact of entrenched conflict on children.
She shows how workers can do much to prevent high conflict becoming entrenched. She believes that successful practice comes from earning the right to be heard by clients, and the right to be seen as experts who might speak on behalf of children without diminishing their role as parents.

Title: Because it's for the Kids: Building a secure parenting base after separation, by Jennifer McIntosh PhD.

Overview: The purpose of the booklet is to invite distracted parents back into the world of their children. It does this in ways that are at once accessible and solidly based on what research tells us about the needs of a child. The booklet offers separated parents words of support, ideas and wisdom to help them work through issues and build a secure base for their children.

The needs of parents are recognized as well. They need respectful, child focused dispute resolution procedures; they need compassionate supportive reminders that, though they are no longer partners, they remain parents. So, the booklet is also a resource for the practitioners who work with families in transition through separation.
